Sound ExChange + TIGUE Collaboration

Dimenna Center for Classical Music (NYC)

Shows in Rochester and NYC featured a collaboration between Sound ExChange and percussion trio TIGUE. The program of original music by group members and a piece by Grammy-nominated composer Anna Clyne was inspired by the fascination found in the customary--the sounds of breath, nature, and the everyday. 

Taproom Series
Skylark Lounge

The Taproom Series presented concerts in coffee shops, bars, and other unconventional venues in Rochester. Programs included acoustic and contemporary classical music.  

Sight & Sound
Memorial Art Gallery

The Sight & Sound series staged performances at the Memorial Art Gallery to explore relationships between music and art.

Fringe Festival 2013 & 2016
Strasenburgh Planetarium

The multi-disciplinary production of ANOMALY fused live music, dance, and visual art to create an immersive experience inside the Rochester Museum and Science Center's planetarium. Designed through a collaboration involving dance company BIODANCE, Sound ExChange musicians, and W. Michelle Harris, an RIT Associate Professor in Interactive Games and Media, performances sold out during the Rochester Fringe Festival in 2013 and 2016.

Rochester Contemporary Arts Center

Musicians designed an interactive performance using found objects in collaboration with the exhibit on display at the Rochester Contemporary Art Center. 

WXXI Backstage Pass
WXXI Radio | Julia Figueras, host

In a live interview broadcast with Julia Figueras, Music Director and mid-day host for WXXI-FM, musicians performed a range of repertoire and discussed plans related to their recently awarded $100,000 Creative Collision grant.

Imagine RIT
Rochester Institute of Technology

Imagine RIT is an annual creativity and innovation festival on the campus of the Rochester Institute of Technology. Musicians worked with RIT students and professors to utilize interactive technology during the live performance. One piece involved a collaboration with W. Michele Harris, RIT professor, who designed media projections to accompany the music. Another piece used imagery, motion capture, and mobile devices to help initiate a “conversation” between musicians and the audience. Listeners were invited to contribute to the performance in real time using a customized mobile app.

The final performance of the Creative Collision Project involved collaborators from many disciplines, including music, visual art, theater, and technology.

In 2013, the Max and Marian Farash Charitable Foundation awarded Sound ExChange a $100,000 Cultural Creative Collision grant to fund interdisciplinary concert programs and educational activities. As part of the Creative Collision Project, one concert was staged at Geva Theater and involved electronics, media projection, and interactive technology to encourage audience participation. 

Silence & Sound
Rush Rhees Library

Rush Rhees Library is one of the most striking and iconic buildings on the University of Rochester River Campus. Musicians designed a performance specifically for the library with the goal of transforming a typically quiet space into a concert stage. The unexpected performance attracted nearby students and faculty providing a break from the typical school day.
